Directors Welcome

Welcome to the 2009 Indonesian Film Festival in Melbourne, Australia. This year, the IFF Inc. dedicated team is bringing Melbourne an amazing Indonesian cinematic experience which the city has never been offered before. ‘Have A Taste!’ is not only our theme for this year, but it is also a calling to you, to take a bite of this cinematic feast. In 2009, the Indonesian Film Festival is rolling on its fourth year, and yet, the Festival has never been this big and delicious in the three previous years. So, it is time to leave your working station, forget your well-planned schedule for a while, and immerse yourself in the richness of the Indonesian culture with us.

Equipped with an army of Indonesian film experts, our Selection Panel has done a fantastic job in selecting a tasty compilation of five-star movies that will delight your taste buds. Should you enjoy the sensation of terror and fright, have a taste of our top quality thrillers - Takut (Faces of Fear) and Macabre(aka Rumah Dara). If you are not a big fan of goosebumps, choose, Janda Kembang, Queen Bee or Kambing Jantan as your main menu, and we guarantee you a dinner full of smiles and laughter.

We are also offering you our historical and traditional menu, with which you can taste the authentic flavor of Indonesia and see the country’s true colour. So, we invite you to soak your night in a double-dipped session of the epic journey of Drupadi and the most controversial film, Kantata Takwa. A special presentation for students will be the award-winning Laskar Pelangi. Our documentary-anthology Pertaruhan (At Stake) is dedicated for you who want to see the wild and rugged life of Indonesian women, in the quest of their integrity and identity. We are also very proud to have Cin(T)a (God is a Director) as our dessert. Cin(T)a is definitely the best last repast, as it ends the Festival with an inter-religious love story that will stir your emotions and make you think outside the square.

Along with the full-of-flavor feature films, the Festival also comes with a number of appetizing short films such as Floating Nurse, A Part of U, In3Cities and My School Master, The Scavenger. Each of these award-winning films will be screened for the opening of some of the feature films.

So, do not forget to check the festival planner, now and again, to ensure that you sit comfortably and watch the movies of your choice!
